Book Review – Job Free: Four Ways to Quit the Rat Race and Achieve Financial Freedom on Your Terms by Jake Desyllas

I just finished reading Job Free: Four Ways to Quit the Rat Race and Achieve Financial Freedom on Your Terms by Jake Desyllas.

At this time it is free on Prime Reading.

In this book, Jake Desyllas provides four ways to approach a job free lifestyle. He walks you through each approach and allows the reader to pick an approach that works for them.

I have read many books showing an authors particular path to success.  While this is profitable to read,  it is only one singular path.  In this book, he takes the desired objective Quitting the Rat Race and details each path you can take to get there.

Forget searching for the right job—start building a life in which you don’t need a job. A job-free life is possible, and you have options about how to achieve it. This book provides real-world examples of people who have successfully quit the rat race using four different strategies: extreme saving, unjobbing, lifestyle businesses, and startups. Whether you want to achieve financial independence and retire early, or simply never work for anyone else again, this book provides an essential guide to the different lifestyle-design strategies open to you. An inspiring and concise introduction to job freedom and financial independence, by someone who has achieved both.

Product Description from Amazon

As you can see in the book description above the four paths are:

  • Extreme Saving – Saving enough money to eventually live off of.
  • Unjobbing – Work enough to support your lifestyle instead of your lifestyle being your work.
  • Lifestyle Business – Creating  a business that allows you the freedom to live the life you want.
  • Startup – Creating a business that you will ultimately sale.

Each path you can take will depend on your desires,  situations,  and level of risk.  The author explains the good, the bad, and the ugly of each approach.

At the end of each chapter there is a resource section with links to podcasts, books,  and websites specific to the subject matter in that chapter.

He regularly uses real life examples of other unjobbers and links to their blogs or podcasts.  I find this very useful because each path can be so different.

With 140 pages, this is a quick and effective read.  At the time of this writing this book has 4.6 out 5 stars on Amazon.  The reviews are great and I would have to agree with them.
